MHA Greenlights CBI Inquiry Against Incarcerated AAP Minister Satyendar Jain

Satyendar Jain

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted approval for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the allegations against jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister, Satyendar Jain. This move follows accusations of Jain extorting Rs 10 crore from conman Sukash Chandrashekhar while both were in Tihar jail. The development surfaces amidst Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s custody under the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a purported liquor policy case.

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena forwarded the proposal for CBI investigation to the MHA, seeking approval to prosecute or investigate Jain under section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Jain, who formerly served as the home minister in the Kejriwal-led government, was apprehended by the ED in May 2022 on charges related to money laundering and has been detained in Tihar jail since. His arrest stemmed from a CBI FIR filed in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
