Qualifications for Kolkata Police Constables
The Madhyamik Examination or the Secondary Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or an equivalent, must have been passed by the candidates. The applicant needs to be fluent in Bengali in both writing and speaking.
Kolkata Police Constable Age Limit
Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30 as of January 1, 2024. The upper age limit will be lowered by 5 (five) years for candidates from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, by 3 (three) years for candidates from Other Backward Classes—A and B—by 3 (three) years for candidates from Third Gender/Transgender candidates, and by 5 (five) years for candidates who are Civic Volunteers.
With a maximum age of 40 (forty) years, the upper age limit for applicants who are ex-servicemen will be loosened based on the total number of years of completed service.

Exam Pattern for Kolkata Police Constables in 2024
Preliminary Written Test (Full Marks – 100) :
A preliminary written test with multiple choice questions will be required of eligible candidates. It’s crucial that you pass this test, but that’s all. There will be one mark assigned to each of the 100 questions, each of which has four possible answers. The test will take one hour to finish. There will be versions of the questions in Nepali and Bengali.
The preliminary written test will consist of questions on the following subjects:
- i. General Awareness and General Knowledge: 40 Marks
- ii. Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik standard): 30 Marks
- iii. Reasoning: 30 Marks
Test for physical measurement (PMT):
Electronic devices will be used to measure the physical standards (weight and height) of candidates who pass the preliminary written exam. A measuring tape will be used to take the candidates’ chest measures who are male.
PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TEST (PET):-

FINAL WRITTEN EXAMINATION: 85 total points;
The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board will arrange the Final Written Examination, which is open to all applicants who pass the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). There will be 85 multiple-choice questions on this test, each with four possible answers. A mark will be awarded for each question. The exam will take one hour to finish. With the exception of those pertaining to the English language, the questions will be available in both Bengali and Nepali.

INTEVIEW: Full Marks – 15;
Based on their merit and performance, only a select few individuals will be invited for an interview. Candidates will be evaluated on their general awareness and suitability for public service during the interview. The candidates’ Bengali speaking proficiency will also be assessed. A merit list of candidates who have been provisionally selected will be created by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board based on the scores obtained in both the final written exam and the interview.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION:-
(a) At facilities the State Government designates, each provisionally selected candidate will have a medical examination.
(a) Those chosen for selection must be in good physical and mental health. They should be free of any defects that would impair their productivity.
(c) In accordance with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, candidates would go through all necessary medical examinations.
(d) A medical official with authorization will issue the certificate of medical fitness.
